Canadian Premier Prepares Strengthening Relations with Mexico

(MENAFN) Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to travel to Mexico City later this week to enhance bilateral cooperation with Mexico and "reinforce North American prosperity," his office announced on Tuesday.

Carney’s visit, scheduled for Sept. 18-19, will include meetings with Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum, focusing on "security, infrastructure, investment, energy, and trade," according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office.

Emphasizing the objective of the encounter, the statement noted that the meeting seeks to "elevate and broaden the bilateral relationship."

It added, "This visit will further strengthen our relationship and deliver greater prosperity and security for our workers and businesses."

The statement also highlighted that "Canada's new government is diversifying and strengthening its trade relationships with reliable partners to create high-paying careers, grow our industries, secure new markets, and build more resilient supply chains."

Carney praised the "strong" relations between Canada and Mexico, affirming that "together, we will build stronger supply chains, create new opportunities for workers, and deliver greater prosperity and certainty for both Canadians and Mexicans."

Both North American nations have faced pressure from US President Donald Trump, whose threats of tariffs have encouraged Mexico and Canada to expand their bilateral ties.
