Iran Says It Has Responded to US Peace Proposal as Talks Continue via Mediator

(MENAFN) Iran has said it has formally responded to a new peace proposal from the United States, while diplomatic exchanges aimed at ending the conflict continue through third-party mediation, according to reports.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said Tehran’s position had been communicated to Washington and that discussions were ongoing via a Pakistani intermediary, despite continuing disagreements over key issues.

As stated by reports, the negotiations are part of efforts to resolve a war that began in late February involving the United States and Israel, with only limited direct engagement and a fragile ceasefire in place.

Baqaei said Iran’s core demands remain unchanged, including the release of frozen Iranian assets abroad and the lifting of long-standing economic sanctions. He described these as consistent positions maintained throughout previous rounds of negotiations.

He also reiterated Iran’s demand for war reparations, characterizing the conflict as “illegal and baseless.”

“The points raised are Iranian demands that have been firmly defended by the Iranian negotiating team in every round of negotiations,” he said.

Regarding future security risks, Baqaei stated that Iran remains “fully prepared for any eventuality,” including the possibility of renewed military escalation.

According to Iranian media reports cited in the coverage, the US proposal included a five-point framework that would require Iran to significantly limit its nuclear program, including maintaining only one enrichment site and transferring enriched uranium stocks abroad.

Those reports also claimed that Washington has not agreed to release a substantial portion of frozen Iranian funds or provide compensation for war-related damage, and would only end hostilities once Tehran enters formal negotiations.

Iranian outlets further argued that the proposal contained few concessions from the US side, suggesting it could lead to a stalemate in talks if unchanged.
