Russia Gears Up to Revive Titanium Supply Deal with Boeing

(MENAFN) Russia is preparing to revive its titanium supply partnership with U.S. aerospace leader Boeing through VSMPO-Avisma, the world’s largest titanium producer, located in the Sverdlovsk region, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov revealed in an interview published Tuesday.

Speaking to a Russian news agency, Manturov emphasized that Moscow has not imposed any export bans on titanium and Boeing remains free to continue its purchases. He stated, “At some point, we had a suspension of purchases. We did not introduce any restrictions in this area, so our colleagues can continue to purchase.”

Highlighting the strategic importance of the collaboration, Manturov added, “Plus, we are counting on the resumption of work at the joint venture VSMPO-Avisma with Boeing, which is located in the Titanium Valley in the Sverdlovsk Region. These are joint investments; this is a mutually beneficial, interesting project.”

He underscored that the joint venture helps to streamline production and cut logistics costs by supplying finished titanium components directly.

Manturov has previously indicated Russia’s openness to continued cooperation with Boeing, conditional on the U.S. company’s willingness to resume titanium purchases.

The joint venture, Ural Boeing Manufacturing, operates within the Titanium Valley special economic zone and represents a partnership between Boeing and VSMPO-Avisma Corporation.

Boeing halted purchases of Russian titanium in 2022 in response to the war in Ukraine, disrupting the long-standing supply chain.
