Russia rejects allegations of attacking Ukrainian government building

(MENAFN) Russian authorities have stated that their recent long-range strikes in Kiev targeted drone assembly facilities and an industrial site, denying any attacks on the building housing Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers.

In a statement on Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry said the high-precision strikes focused on facilities producing, repairing, and storing UAVs, as well as military airfields in central, southern, and eastern Ukraine. The industrial enterprise ‘Kiev-67’ on the western edge of the capital and a southern logistics facility were also targeted.

“The objectives of the strike have been achieved, all designated targets have been hit. No strikes have been carried out on other sites within the boundaries of Kiev,” the ministry stressed.

Earlier, Ukrainian officials reported that a Russian drone had struck the government building near Independence Square, igniting fires on its upper floors. They also claimed that the attacks involved over 800 drones nationwide. According to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, four people were killed and 44 injured in the strikes.

Russia has carried out drone and missile attacks on Ukraine for months, focusing on military facilities and the defense sector, framing them as retaliation for Kiev’s deep strikes into Russian territory, which have sometimes affected residential areas and critical infrastructure. Moscow maintains that it does not target civilians.

Russian authorities have also accused Ukraine of deploying air defenses in residential zones, suggesting that halting this practice could reduce casualties.
