Turkey congratulates Syria on Assad regime’s fall anniversary

(MENAFN) Türkiye extended warm congratulations to the Syrian people on the first anniversary of both the end of the civil conflict and the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s rule, according to an official announcement.

In a statement marking the occasion, the Foreign Ministry declared: “On the first anniversary of 8 December 2024, marking the end of the civil war in Syria and the fall of the Assad regime, we wholeheartedly congratulate the Syrian people as they celebrate their Liberation Day.”

The ministry went on to highlight Syria’s conduct over the past year, noting: “Over the past year, despite facing numerous challenges, the Syrian Government has pursued a prudent and peaceful foreign policy and taken lasting steps toward securing the respected position that Syria rightfully deserves in the international arena.”

The statement also emphasized that Türkiye intends to remain supportive of initiatives aimed at strengthening stability, safety, and economic well-being across Syria.

Assad, who had held power for nearly a quarter of a century, fled to Russia last December, formally ending the Baath Party’s rule that began in 1963.
