Iranian Leader Says Nation must Commit Itself to Justice

(MENAFN) Iran’s president said on Saturday that the country must commit itself to justice as a means of protecting the nation from forces seeking to harm Iranians both domestically and internationally, while emphasizing the importance of separating legitimate public dissent from actions intended to provoke division.

He stressed that authorities have a duty to hear citizens who express themselves peacefully, stating, “We are obligated to listen to peaceful protesters,” while warning that “there are those who seek to ride the wave of protests in order to divide the nation,” as stated by reports.

The president underlined that public participation in governance is essential, arguing, “We must give our people their sovereignty and involve them in decision-making, while remaining vigilant against attempts to turn protests into sedition.”

Referring to past developments, he said experience has demonstrated that “sworn enemies, including the Israeli regime and its Western supporters, have consistently sought to incite unrest, create division, and fragment Iran.” According to him, such groups attempt to exploit social grievances by steering demonstrations toward “violence, assassinations, and the destruction of public property,” including assaults on security forces and essential services—acts he said “have no place in any norm of civil protest.”

He added that officials must critically review how they deal with the public in order to remove any justification for those trying to transform demonstrations into hostility and agitation, stressing that “sincere service to the people is the primary barrier against enemy infiltration.”

These remarks come at a time of heightened strain between Tehran and Washington in recent weeks, following statements by US President Donald Trump claiming that a “massive armada” was heading toward Iran and urging Tehran to “come to the table” for negotiations.

Iranian officials have responded by warning that any American strike would be met with a “swift and comprehensive” reaction, while maintaining that Iran remains willing to engage in talks only under what it describes as “fair, balanced and noncoercive terms.”
