Iran Announces US Nuclear Negotiations Scheduled in Oman on Friday
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on US social media platform X that the meeting would be held in the capital, Muscat, at approximately 10 a.m. local time (0600 GMT).
“Nuclear talks with the United States are scheduled to be held in Muscat on about 10 a.m. Friday,” he wrote, adding his appreciation for Oman’s role in facilitating the talks. “I’m grateful to our Omani brothers for making all necessary arrangements,” Araghchi said.
A White House official also confirmed Wednesday to a news agency that the negotiations will take place in Oman, despite earlier reports from another news outlet suggesting that the US had rejected a change from the originally proposed Istanbul venue in Türkiye.
Earlier media reports from Iran indicated that the two sides would conduct indirect discussions in Muscat, focusing on nuclear issues. Prior to the Oman venue, Istanbul had been suggested following Türkiye’s successful efforts to help ease tensions between Washington and Tehran.
