Iran President Calls Recent US Talks ‘A Step Forward’

(MENAFN) Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian described the recent discussions with the United States, facilitated by regional partners, as “a step forward,” according to reports on Sunday.

“Dialogue has always been our strategy for achieving peaceful solutions,” Pezeshkian wrote on the social media platform X, underlining that Iran’s stance on the nuclear issue relies on “the rights guaranteed under the Non-Proliferation Treaty.”

He further noted that the country “responds to respect with respect but does not accept the language of force.”

The indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the US resumed on Friday after a period of heightened tensions, driven by US President Donald Trump’s warnings of potential military action.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called the initial talks “a good start” and suggested they could continue if the existing climate of mistrust is addressed. He said both sides agreed that discussions would move forward, with the possibility of reconvening in Muscat, Oman, at a later date.

Araghchi also stated that Iran’s missile program will not be open to negotiation, either now or in the future, describing it as a “defensive matter.”
