Iran Reviews Timing for Upcoming Talks with US

(MENAFN) A senior Iranian security official announced on Wednesday that a date has not yet been finalized for the next round of negotiations between Iran and the United States, adding that further details will be shared once a decision is made.

Ali Larijani, who heads Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, stated in remarks to state television that the latest discussions with Washington were “relatively good” and indicated that the American delegation appears willing to move conversations forward in pursuit of a suitable resolution.

He cautioned, however, that drawing broad conclusions from a single meeting would be premature.

“One cannot judge the negotiations from one round alone, and we must follow their continuation,” he added.

In comments delivered a day earlier during a visit to Muscat, Larijani said the US side had come to the understanding that the talks should be limited strictly to nuclear-related matters, without expanding into other areas.

He emphasized that keeping the focus narrow could improve the chances of success. “If the Americans’ concern is that Iran should not move toward acquiring a nuclear weapon, this is something that can be resolved. But introducing issues beyond that into the negotiations will complicate the path,” he said.

Larijani further observed that Washington’s stance appears to be shifting toward what he described as a more practical position. “Previously, they linked military and missile issues to the nuclear file. Now they are speaking only about the nuclear file, which is a rational approach. Military issues have no relation to the nuclear file.”

He also warned that the United States should avoid allowing Israel to influence the direction of the negotiations based on its own policies, arguing that doing so would ultimately undermine American interests.
