China Confirms Safe Rescue of Hijacked Fishing Vessel Off Somalia
In an official statement, the Chinese Embassy denounced the hijacking as a “blatantly vicious action” that endangered both the crew and international maritime traffic.
The statement added that Beijing will employ “all necessary means to resolutely safeguard the lawful rights and interests of Chinese citizens and enterprises overseas” while coordinating with relevant authorities to ensure maritime security.
“Any attempts to undermine or disrupt China-Somalia cooperation are bound to fail in vain,” the embassy said, citing “profound traditional friendship.”
China emphasized that it worked closely with Somalia’s federal government and Puntland state officials throughout the incident, which occurred in waters off the semi-autonomous region.
The Somali authorities reaffirmed that Chinese fishing vessels operate in Somali waters with official permission and fully comply with local regulations, according to reports. The government also highlighted that it takes China’s security concerns seriously and is prepared to collaborate in mutually beneficial areas, such as the fishing sector.
China confirmed its commitment to continuing cooperation with Somalia across multiple sectors to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.
