Iran's FM Accuses Trump of “Betraying Diplomacy”

(MENAFN) Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi launched a scathing public attack on US President Donald Trump Wednesday, accusing him of sabotaging diplomatic efforts and turning his back on the very voters who put him in office—as American and Israeli forces continue their assault on Iranian soil.

Araghchi took his condemnation directly to X, the US-owned social media platform, firing off a pointed rebuke that framed the collapse of nuclear negotiations as a deliberate act of bad faith rather than a diplomatic failure.

"When complex nuclear negotiations are treated like a real estate transaction, and when big lies cloud realities, unrealistic expectations can never be met," Araghchi wrote on the US social media company X.

The inevitable result of that approach, he argued, was "bombing the negotiation table out of spite"—a phrase that captures Tehran's position that Washington chose military force over a deal well within reach.

Araghchi reserved his sharpest words for the US president personally.

"Mr. Trump betrayed diplomacy and Americans who elected him," Araghchi said.

The accusations arrive against a backdrop of rapidly escalating regional bloodshed. Saturday's large-scale US-Israeli military offensive against Iran killed nearly 800 people, among them Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei—a seismic blow to the Islamic Republic's leadership structure. Tehran has since responded with waves of drone and missile strikes directed at both Israel and Gulf states hosting American military personnel and assets, pushing the region deeper into open conflict with no diplomatic off-ramp currently in sight.
